2010 Amazon Faith Expedition

Cost: $2,450 to $2,950.00. Includes airfare from Los Angeles, all travel within Peru, all food and lodging during the trip, plus insurance.

Description: If you live to be a hundred you will never find another journey like this and if you come with us you will never forget it as long as you live...
Our team will fly from L.A. to Lima to Iquitos, Peru, then head two days down the Amazon River by barge (watching for river dolphins and alligators along the way). Then we transfer to a smaller boat to head even deeper into the jungle to our ministry base—the village of San Juan. Here you’ll check into the primitive-yet-not-entirely-uncomfortable Jungle House. The next three days will be spent in training, team building and spiritual and physical preparation for ministry.
On the morning of August 6, 2010, turn your eyes to the river! You’ll see a sight like something straight out of the pages of National Geographic—boat after boat bringing hundreds upon hundreds of villagers to this annual event at which you will be ministering! This is the Jungle Congreso. Over 1,000 people gather here at this event once a year to hear the Gospel and be ministered to. Over the next five days they receive prayer, food, medical attention and spiritual encouragement. And remember, for this event, you and your team are the only ministers…
The days start with the sound of drums and worship long before sunrise, and the ministry continues late into each night. You can be the one who helps cook for these people, pray for these people, lead them to Jesus, and perhaps even baptize them at the close of the event. Last year we baptized over 100 people in the river!
Spiritual Requirements: We want people who care about making a difference in this world and want to live life to the full. We believe an abundant life includes the adventure of serving God and others. And sometimes that means taking advantage of opportunities that may even scare us at first! As we say on the homepage, this is not your average mission trip.
We want people who are hungry for more of God’s presence and want to learn how to better minister in the power of the Holy Spirit…
We want people who are willing to dare believe that the Book of Acts is not a dry history lesson but an example of the lives we should be trying to live today…
Please realize that all these requirements are places where we want your heart to be and not requirements of experience! In other words, if you are willing to take the risk of being fully used by God, then we want you on this trip.
Physical Requirements: You must be fit enough for an extended camping trip to take part in this expedition, although in most cases the actual conditions are not nearly as demanding as a camping trip.
Language Requirements: None. Spanish is the primary language in Peru. If you can speak Spanish, that’s great, but if not you will get along fine in all situations—a number of interpreters will be available to you throughout the trip.
Specific Areas of Ministry:
Medical and Dental: Opportunity to work alongside a physician in a jungle clinic, bringing perhaps the only medical attention they have received all year.
Children's Ministry: 500 kids needing ministry from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.—it doesn't get any more real than that! Our Children's Ministry needs clowns, artists, sports enthusiasts, and anyone else who has a heart for children to help them teach, entertain and spread the Gospel to the precious children of the jungle.
Sports Ministry: Hundreds of children and youth will need activities to inspire them—could you be the one to help lead?
Youth Ministry: Over 150 youth need mentoring and ministering to in some very practical ways.
Pastoral Ministry: Help us encourage nearly 100 church pastors and leaders.
Details for Specific Age Groups:
Youth: If you are new to ministry we will help train you and give you the opportunity to participate fully in ministry to whatever degree you feel comfortable. If you have been on mission trips in the past then we will help you use and expand upon that experience. After consulting with you and getting to know you, you will have the opportunity to serve in children’s ministry, youth ministry, prayer team, security, coordinating or in other service duties.
